This app shares the route of Commonwealth Walkways which have been designed to be as safe, accessible and attractive as possible.
The Walkways have been created by The Outdoor Trust in partnership with local people to thread together some of the Commonwealth’s most precious gems including many significant landmarks, stunning viewpoints and iconic attractions in celebration of the richness and diversity found in the Commonwealth’s 71 Nations and Territories.
In time it is hoped that every point of significance will be marked in the footway with one of the Commonwealth Walkway bronze markers. Her Majesty The Queen has graciously allowed the markers to include her personal EIIR royal cypher and they are being installed locally in recognition of her unfailing service as Head of The Commonwealth for more than 63 years.
The Walkway appears on a detailed and fully functional map base. There are options for a street name or business search; location book marking; scale adjustment; and both Find Me’ and Auto Tracking (when using an Iphone and Ipad 3G models). The map works completely off line so there is no need for a 3G connection or data plan and roaming charges wont be incurred to use it. Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. This app gives you the option to turn off the GPS tracking in the background to prolong the battery life.
In this lite version of the Walkway guide the walk details, photos and information on each point of significance are all fully accessible. There is an option to upgrade to the full version to also view the turn by turn walking directions and Commonwealth Walkway maps.
Walking is convenient, low‐impact, rarely associated with physical injury, appropriate for all age‐groups and free. We hope that you enjoy this specially selected Commonwealth Walkway, as one of only 100 that serve to unite 2.3 billion people in a practical way.
